Construction Site Safety Tips

Both government and private construction crews need to do everything they can to ensure that both their crew and the general public are safe during ongoing construction. The rules below are not only suggested but legally required in most places. Many companies partake in a construction safety program to ensure that they have had the correct training to the industry standard, however, this doesn’t usually come for free, so if there are cost restraints then you need to make sure to get with local legal codes and comply with everything they state.

Wear Protective Gear

A 2013 study in the UK showed that 20% of all construction site injuries were head injuries. This survey included both fatal and non-fatal injuries. People who did not wear a hard hat were more likely to have more serious injuries than people who did not wear a hard hat. Construction workers should wear a hard hat whenever they are on the construction site, even if they do not think they are likely to have something hit their head. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Make a Traffic Control Plan

Some construction projects may just out into a street or parking lot. When this happens, the construction site manager will need to pick traffic control plans to keep traffic running smoothly. These plans will help to redirect traffic away from the construction site. This can help to keep drivers, pedestrians, and construction workers safe from drivers.

Use Signage

Signage can be used to help both construction crew members and members of the general public know where they are supposed to go. These signs can include anything a construction company thinks will help to make messages loud and clear. Again, look up local laws and regulations to see if there are any required pieces of signage needed.

There is no one way to keep a construction site safe for both construction workers and others. Instead, construction companies need to take many small measures. Take these steps and research others to make sure the construction sites as safe as possible.
